In the spring of 2009, Empower Playgrounds interns and employees came together with Ghanaian director William Akuffo of Ghallywood Film Village to produce the docu-drama “Abena.” This film follows the life of a young Ghanaian as she struggles to learn and grow without light in her village. One day, Abena finds her school adorned with a new playground and discovers the power of light in her life. Watch the film to see what EPI can do for the aspirations of children in rural villages as they attempt to rise above their circumstances. This docu-drama is a remarkable opportunity for EPI to simultaneously provide villagers with their first ever big screen experience, and teach them about the care and benefits of their new playground equipment! The whole village gathers for a night like this.
